2017 Brass Symposium

Celebrating the great American tradition of community bands and music making, the informative and entertaining event is on June 2, 2017,  in the Norton Center’s Weisiger Theatre on the campus of Centre College, Danville, KY .

In keeping with this year’s festival theme of the Roaring Twenties, some of the symposium presenters will also be presenting on topics related to the 1920s.

The presenters, soloists, and performing groups include world-renowned trumpeter Jens Lindemann and the virtuoso chamber group Boston Brass. Returning for an encore performance at this year’s festival will also be Rodney Mack Philadelphia Big Brass.

Paper presentations will be given by Dr. Bryan Proksch (Lamar University), Joshua Gailey (Yale University), and Dr. Edward Green (Manhattan School of Music).

Student brass ensembles from universities from around the United States will provide short programs throughout the day.

The event will be hosted by Dr. Ronald Holz, professor emeritus at Asbury University and a well-known band historian.  Leading up to the Symposium, Dr. Jason Dovel, assistant professor of trumpet at the University of Kentucky, helped organize the event.
