The 2008 Conference on Music History will focus on Abraham Lincoln and American Band Music. Sessions are designed to include lecture, film and performance from famous conductors, music historians and performers. The conference also provides participants opportunities for interaction with the world-renowned presenters and performers in attendance.
The focus of the papers and performances will be on the relationship between Abraham Lincoln and bands both of his day, and in the generations that followed, particularly musical compositions written in honor of President Lincoln and in reflection of his times. The topics chosen in connection with this theme should prove to have the widest appeal, including the specialist scholar and the average layman. Performances will reflect the music of Mr. Lincoln’s time. A reenactment of a concert President and Mrs. Lincoln attended will be the highlight of the conference.
*This conference is sponsored in part by the Kentucky Humanities Council and the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.
