Come enjoy the Louisiana Bayou in the heart of Central Kentucky. Enjoy traditional New Orleans music, Cajun food, Cajun dance, libations and fun for all ages. Have a blast at Bayou & Brass! It’s Mardi Gras in downtown Danville! As part of the Great American Brass Band Festival, downtown Danville will come alive with the sights, sounds and flavors of New Orleans. Bring your kids to enjoy free activities! Be sure to join the 2nd line parade starting at 5:00 pm at the Boyle County Library (parasol decorating information below). Everyone is welcome.
Children’s Bayou Fun
From a Parasol Parade to creating your very own Luck Doll, the Festival has captured the New Orleans’ spirit for children of all ages to enjoy. A professional face painter, silhouette artist, and magician will also be on hand during Bayou and Brass.
On Main Street from 4:00 to 7:00 pm children can enjoy the following for FREE: Flash tattoos, Face Painting designs, creating their very own Luck Dolls, making Mardi Gras masks and crafting Mardi Gras necklaces. There is plenty of New Orleans’ inspired fun for every child to enjoy.
Children can also be a part at 5:00 pm of the Children’s Parasol Parade. The Parasol Parade will meet at 4:45 pm in the parking lot of the library and then Parade behind 8UP Brass Band to Weisiger Park.
If you would like to decorate your Parasol before the Parade, Soulshine Studio will be hosting two times to stop by and decorate parasols. The first session is May 18th from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. The second decorating session is May 20th from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. 40 parasols have been donated for these two sessions. For more information on signing up for designing your parasol, please contact Scarlet Smothers at 859-319-0653. Unable to make these decorating times? No problem, parasols are available at Hobby Lobby, decorate yours at home, and then join us at the Parasol Parade line up at 4:45 pm.
$1 raffle tickets available during Festival week (old the week before the Festival, during Bayou & Brass, and the Festival Market next to the Creation Station) Purchase tickets for a chance to win an American Girl Doll Wellie Wisher and Storybook (Ashlyn). Or purchase tickets to win a kids Louisville Slugger Bat and Ball. Also get a chance to win a pBone kids Trombone. The drawing will take place between 6:30-7:00 pm on Centre College’s campus on June 3, 2017. Winners of both raffles will be announced at 6:50 pm on Saturday night, June 3 of the Festival from the Main Stage. Winners must pick up their items by June 9, 2017 from the Festival offices at 320 West Main Street, Danville, KY 40422. All proceeds benefit the Great American Brass Band Festival’s Educational Programs.
