Bill Bandy Exec. Dir.

Bill Bandy Named Executive Director of the Great American Brass Band Festival

The new Executive Director of the Great American Brass Band Festival is a familiar face to many local musicians and concert-goers. Bill Bandy is a 1973 graduate of Danville High School where he spent countless hours playing trombone in the band under the leaderships of Bill Gravely.

After years of serving in the corporate world, mainly in directing pharmacy operations for Begley, CVS and Southeastern Grocers, Bandy retired last year and returned to his hometown where he picked up his trombone again. He joined local musicians Eben Henson and Barry Harmon in the band PowerPlay. The classic rock group keeps busy playing for many Central Kentucky events.

Bandy also plays in the Advocate-Messenger Band, one of the core performing groups at every festival.

GABBF board chairman Bruce Richardson led the search for the new director.

“We were delighted to receive 22 applications from five states for the position,” Richardson said. “Bill’s resume rose to the top because of his knowledge of the community and his years of experience in management. Plus, his musical knowledge will certainly come in handy.”

Bandy replaces Robin Cooper who left the post recently to return to banking. She will continue to serve on the board of directors and assist with the transition to a new executive director.

Bill Bandy will begin his new role on September 4.
