It’s Mardi Gras in Downtown Danville!
Want to enjoy Cajun food, live music, ice-cold libations, a little dancing in the streets and a whole lot of New Orleans flavored fun?
(Yeah, we thought so!)
Have a blast at Bayou & Brass!
This event is part of the Great American Brass Band Festival and it will bring downtown Danville alive with the sights, sounds and flavors of New Orleans.
Bring the Whole Family! It gets better! Bayou and Brass is family-friendly, so there's no need to find a sitter to enjoy a great time downtown. There will be a children's area set up in front of the former main entrance of the courthouse where the kiddos will be able to play some chess, get their faces painted, and decorate their own masks -- all while listening to some fun music. Bring your kids to enjoy all the free activities!
Festivities begin at 4 with the Storyville Stompers from NOLA in the Trinity Episcopal Church where they will play inside the church for about an hour. When they finish, we will gather at the main stage in Weiseger where another New Orleans band -- the Stooges Brass Band -- will lead us in a 2nd line parade.
Bring an Umbrella or ParasolRegardless of the weather, you should bring a parasol or umbrella for your youngsters to decorate starting at 4 p.m. by the main stage at Weiseger Park. (There will be a just a few donated parasols available in case anyone forgets). Find inspiration on our Second Line Parade Pinterest board. We don't want anyone to miss out on the fun!)
Children will have the opportunity to decorate their umbrellas until the second line parade at 5 pm.
Music and Dancing in the StreetsEveryone (of every age) is encouraged to bring their parasol or umbrella to join in as The Stooges lead the crowd in a line around Main Street, New Orleans style!
The Circle City Sidewalk Stompers will entertain us again this year between different numbers and the Metrognomes out of Lexington are joining in the fun.
The Food & Drinks ... Oh MY!Your inner Cajun will be delighted by our food vendors this year. Prepare for your mouth to water as they serve up: Gumbo, red beans & rice, jambalaya, BBQ, Bourbon chicken, and pulled chicken. Did you think we forgot about dessert? Nope, dig into authentic beignets, assorted Mardi Gras inspired cookies, kettle corn, shaved ice, gelato, and bread pudding!
All the fun might make you thirsty, right? We will have Pepsi products and bottled water for everyone. For those desiring more "adult" libations, we will feature a beer tent and a local distillery will be on hand to serve up additional beverages for the 21+ crowd.
